Tea, Rubber and Coconut Estates (Control of Fragmentation) Board
Notice to the Public!
The Tea, Rubber and Coconut Estates (Control of Fragmentation) Act, No. 02 of 1958, as amended by the Amendment Act, No. 20 of 2005, has been introduced to minimize the impact on the national economy due to the fragmentation of tea, rubber, and coconut estates.
Under the current legal framework, the consent of the Tea, Rubber and Coconut Estates (Control of Fragmentation) Board is required for the transfer of ownership of:
- Coconut estates of 4 hectares or more
- Tea and rubber estates of 20 hectares or more
Transfers made without the Board's consent are considered null and void under the Act.
However, since many of these lands are being fragmented and used for various unplanned projects, there is a need to amend the existing legislation to protect the plantations.
