Making the concept of “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour” of His Excellency the President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa a reality, as a step towards building the economy through local products,
The Pelwatte Sugar Factory owned by the Lanka Sugar Company (Pvt.) Ltd. was modernized and the first sugarcane crushing ceremony of this year was held on 18.02.2021.

Under the leadership of His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapaksa, it was converted into a profit-making institution within a year, providing employment opportunities to about 5,000 employees, empowering the economy of about 10,000 sugarcane farmers and making a significant contribution to the national economy.
The Shrine Room and the vehicle service station of this modernized factory were opened and Hon. State Minister Janaka Wakkumbura, Hon. State Minister Vijitha Beragoda, Hon. Jagath Pushpakumara, M.P. for Monaragala District, Chairman of the Lanka Sugar Company (Pvt.) Ltd., employees and Ministry officials graced the occasion.
